Grange Baking Contest set Feb. 18

Feb 3rd, 2014 | By | Category: News

LYNDEN – The Grange’s annual Baking Contest and Auction will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18. This year the contest includes new categories for pies, gluten free goods, and decorated items, as well as the classic categories of breads, cakes, cookies and brownies. Entry in the contest is open to everyone in Whatcom County, and Grange membership is not required. Recipes do not have to be original (recipes from cookbooks are welcome), and entries are due between 10 a.m. and noon on the day of the contest. Later that evening at the Grange, a potluck dinner will be held at 6 p.m., followed by an auction of the day’s entries. The auction will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m. and is open to anyone. This year’s county-wide event will be held at Ten Mile Grange, 6958 Hannegan Road, Lynden. Participants should obtain a copy of the Entry Rules by logging on to www.wa-grange.org and click on “2014 – 15 Program Handbook.”  For a printed copy, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Edith Ward, 1440 E. Kelly Road, Bellingham, 98226.  Winners at the local level are invited to re-submit their entries at the State Grange Convention in June, where cash prizes are awarded.  For more information, contact Edith Ward at 360-398-1296.
